Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park, established in 2019, is the largest national park in Africa, covering over 30,000 square kilometers. Formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, the park was named in honor of Tanzania’s founding leader, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. This vast wilderness remains ecologically and biologically intact, supporting a diverse range of wildlife with strong predator-prey dynamics.

It is home to large populations of elephants, buffalo, and lions, as well as one of Africa’s last strongholds for wild dogs. The mighty Rufiji River, renowned for its hippos and crocodiles, flows through the park into the Indian Ocean. Designated as a photographic zone, it is a major attraction for visitors.
Tourists can enjoy a wide variety of safari experiences, including boating safaris, traditional game drives, walking safaris, and legendary fly camping trips, making Nyerere National Park one of Tanzania’s most unique and thrilling safari destinations.
