Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park, the largest remote park in southern Tanzania, boasts diverse vegetation zones, creating a unique mix of wildlife. It is the only park in the country where Greater and Lesser Kudu coexist with sable and roan antelopes. Key animals include elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, hunting dogs, striped hyenas, hippos, and crocodiles. Over 540 bird species have been recorded, making it a prime bird watching destination.
Ruaha National Park’s history dates back to 1910 when the Germans established the Saba Game Reserve. The British expanded it into Rungwe Game Reserve in 1946. It became Ruaha National Park in 1964, later expanding in 1974 and again in 2008 with the Usangu Wetland.
Climate
Ruaha National Park has a dry season from July to October, with no rain, clear skies, and low humidity. Wildlife is easier to spot due to thin vegetation and reliance on water sources. The wet season runs from November to May, featuring afternoon storms, high humidity, and lush landscapes that attract migratory birds.

The best time to visit Ruaha National Park is during the dry season, from July to October, when wildlife gathers at the Great Ruaha River.
