Best Time to Experience Tanzania WIlderness

The best time to visit Tanzania is during the Dry season, from June to October, when wildlife viewing is generally at its best. The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is usually all year around but its depends with the time of your safari during June to October the migration is on edge of river Crossing in Northern Serengeti and the time to see the wildebeest calving is from January to early April. The southern and western circuit parks are best visited during the Dry season (June to October), unlike the more popular northern circuit parks that can be visited year-round.

High Season

From June to March, Tanzania experiences its peak travel season also the price is high. The Great Migration moves toward Kenya, while elephants gather at Tarangire National Park. For a more exclusive safari, July is ideal for visiting the remote southern parks, Ruaha and Selous. Lodges fill up quickly during this period, often a year in advance, so early booking is essential. Zanzibar is also a fantastic destination in July, offering cooler yet dry weather. On the mainland, mornings and evenings can be chilly, so packing warm clothing for early game drives and sun downers is advisable. While travel isn’t generally advised due to muddy roads and limited accessibility, those willing to embrace the rain may enjoy fewer crowds and lush, green landscapes. However, flexibility is key, as conditions can change rapidly during this wet season.

Northern Circuit

Tanzania’s Northern Circuit is accessible year-round, offering incredible wildlife viewing in parks like Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara. While the dry season (June–October) provides optimal conditions, the green season (November–May) boasts lush landscapes and fewer crowds. Some roads may be muddy during the long rains, but game drives remain possible, especially in permanent lodges and camps.

Southern and Western Circuit

Tanzania’s southern and western regions have limited access during the rainy season, as heavy rains make roads impassable. Most lodges and camps close, reopening in the dry season (June–October) when conditions improve.
